March 13, 2020
Dear GHNATS Members, Students, and Pianists,
Thank you for your patience and understanding as we finalized important decisions regarding this unprecedented situation. We regret to inform you that our in-person Classical Auditions scheduled for Saturday, March 28, at the Moores School of Music at the University of Houston have been canceled.
The safety and security of our members and their students is our highest priority, and in canceling auditions, we are following the lead of our city, state, and federal elected officials as well as the recommendations of the Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). The University of Houston stated, "Events funded and sponsored by UH and requiring large gatherings of more than 50 people in the Greater Houston Area are discouraged through March and April."
Due to the cancellation of the live classical auditions that were scheduled to be held at UH on March 28, 2020, the chapter will extend an option to the membership to transfer to an online audition format to be conducted at a later date in the Spring/Summer 2020. The originally registered participants who decide not to participate in the online auditions by the extended registration deadline should receive a full refund of registration fees, and the chapter is willing to absorb the administrative costs involved in these reimbursements. Teachers who ordered lunches will be reimbursed as well, since an online audition will negate the need for those. These online auditions will also be opened up to additional registrants who may not have been able to participate in the previous live auditions on March 28.
We will be in touch in a few weeks with further details. Until then, please stay healthy and well!
