Soprano Robin Cobb has performed many roles from the Lyric Soprano musical theater and operatic repertoire and is one of the foremost vocal pedagogues teaching the "crossover" classical and musical theater, contemporary singing styles techniques in Houston.
Her students are performing on Broadway, Off Broadway and in current National and International Tours. Her Sam Houston State University graduated college students performing professionally are: Katie Rose Clarke, the current Glinda on Broadway in Wicked; who starred as Clara Johnson taking over for Kelli O'Hara in "The Light in the Piazza" at The Kennedy Center in 2006, toured as Clara in the National tour through 2008 and toured as Glinda in "Wicked" through 2009; Margaret Hoffman, who will be opening at The Apollo Theater in NYC as Michelle in the Equity International and National Tours of "Dreamgirls" in November 2009, touring through January of 2011; Craig Foster (Mr. March in HITS' Little Women) lead male vocalist currently on Holland America's Zuiderdam; and Onyie Wachachunie who toured as Joanne in the 2007-2009 National and International Tours of "Rent". She also has students who are currently or have recently performed on Carnival, Holland America and Royal Carribean cruise lines in addition to Regional theaters across the country.
Most recently she performed the role of Orthlinde in Die Walkure for the Austin Lyric Opera; and as soprano soloist with the Colorado Symphony in Bernstein's Massand Handel's Messiah. Her professional musical theater credits include: Desiree in A Little Night Music and Marion in The Music Man in Austin, Texas; and a series of musical theater evenings performed with the Santa Barbara Symphony Orchestra featuring songs by Rodgers and Hammerstein, Jerome Kern and Harold Arlen.
She holds a B.A. and M.M. in Vocal Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Texas at Austin. Ms. Cobb has been a member of the National Association of Teachers of singing for the past 15 years; she served as Co-Vice President of Auditions for the Houston chapter from 2002 - 2004 and College Vocal Music Fair Representative from 2006 -2008.
As an Adjunct Faculty member at Sam Houston State University for the past 7 years her expertise are in musical theater/classical crossover vocal techniques. She teaches in various locations around Houston; North Houston, the Memorial Area and Rice University area and Upper Kirby Music School. She is also the owner and founder of Musical Theater/Broadway (MTB) Audition Workshops and Clinics with Actor, Todd Waite helping to prepare young pre-professionals in the MT business.
