President Lester presented a Chapter Report (attached) that summarized the events that had occurred since the last business meeting, as well as those that are planned. The Chapter has 50 members, and the balance as of October 13, 2012, is $2485.51
The report also listed the current roster of officers.
In New Business, the Winner's Recital scheduled for the afternoon will present 24 singers. Three winners are unable to perform. The Chapter is providing the pianist for the recital.
Lester introduced two new board members: Amanda Waites (who replaces Kerry Jennings as VP of College Vocal Music Fair) and Shannon Langman (who replaces Jody Haas as New Member Liaison).
Lester also announced that the ghnats.org website has been updated and improved. The home page will now feature the next event. He led the members through the site.
Angela Pickering, Vice President of Classical Auditions announced that the event is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the University of Houston. There was a question about students participating if their teacher could not attend; it was confirmed that the teacher must be present for their students to participate. There are conflicts with the date, but a discussion regarding changing it yielded no alternatives. There was also discussion about holding the High School and College categories on two separate days, or having one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. In regard to the Musical Theatre Auditions (which have not been scheduled yet), there was discussion about holding the event in late January.
The Vice Presidents of the College Music Vocal Fair, Paul Busselberg and Amanda Waites, reported that ten schools are participating today.
Debra Greschner, Secretary, reminded the membership to renew their membership and pay their dues. This can be done online, by mail, or in person.
Melissa Givens, Treasurer, reported that the Chapter has switched to Amergy Bank as a cost-cutting measure.
The Texoma Regional Auditions will be held at Baylor in 2012 and at University of North Texas in 2013. This year, they will be held at Oklahoma Baptist University.
President Lester reported on the survey results. Dr. Anton Villado of Rice University created and oversaw the survey conducted in Spring 2011. The results will be posted on the website. Frances Fenton asked about teachers who are members of NATS, but who do not participate in chapter activities or maintain membership in the Chapter.
Debra Greschner introduced Dr. Serdar Ilban, who is Visiting Assistant Professor of Voice at Lamar University.
Bob Collett made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Judy Boyter seconded the motion. Meeting adjourned at 1:03 p.m.
Respectfully submitted by Debra Greschner, Secretary
